Creases

You folded it neatly and placed it

In your pocket

And told me you would read it every day

I’d see you take it out and look

Then neatly fold the creases

And put it away

The ink remained bold on the page

My childlike writing scrawled across

Full of spelling errors

Confusing paragraphs

The occasional smudge mark blurring my work

Terrible grammar and inconsistent tense

But never one empty word

And when your hand is touching

And slowly glides across

With tenderness and caring

I can almost feel the warmth

I’ll close my eyes and pray to God

To drain me now

So I will die this happy

As you gently fold my heart
